The Fiscal Court manages major development projects that impact county infrastructure, the business community, and its citizens.
Bicentennial Parking Lot ProjectAs part of the 200 year celebration of the birth of Union County, the Fiscal Court granted the Union County Bicentennial Committee and the UC Leadership Class the opportunity to design a parking area located on the corner of Truitt and Court Streets in Morganfield.
When Downtown Morganfield Incorporated (DMI) surveyed the retail stores in Morganfield, the number one issue for the merchants was lack of parking. The Fiscal Court listened to the merchants and when the building that formally housed Todd's Furniture Store was vacated and put up for sale in 2008, the County purchased the building and lot. After the property was purchased, the building was demolished for the new parking area.
UC Leadership Class worked with the Bicentennial Committee and the Morganfield Public Library to create an all accessable parking lot with park-like features including landscaping with lighting, stone edgings, green space, and benches. A monument will also be featured with a time capsule scheduled to be opened in 50 years. A memorial tree garden graces the back of the parking area.
